Creating Compelling Game Settings

This is the first of a multipart post on game settings.   This is a rich topic and I plan on revisiting it over time.

The first thing to keep in mind is that a compelling setting can drive the characters and the story.  It can create an engagement level that can drive the campaign…..

It should be based on realism and necessity for the secenario…..is this a frontier town?   why would people come?   what lead to the towns founding?   where is it situated and by whom?    The who? what? where? why? how? questions are essential in your design process…..
